Error running reports or closing console

Postby MarkM on Wed Apr 23, 2008 9:46 am

This can be seen if you are running SQL Express 2005. If you are getting an error of "Access is denied" closing the console or an error running the report that states the SQL server cannot be found or access denied it is probably one of two things.

  1. The TCP/IP protocol is not enabled for SQL. Go to the SQL Server Configuration Manager and expand the SQL Native Client Configuration. Then click on the Client Protocols and right click on TCP/IP and select Enable. This will require the SQL Server to be restarted under the SQL Server 2005 Service in the console as well.
  2. The SQL Server Browser service is not running or set to automatic startup. In the SQL Server Configuration Manager under the SQL Server 2005 Services right click the SQL Server Browser service and start the service. Then right click it again and click Properties, then on the Service tab change the Start Mode to Automatic.
